WUF SHANTI COLLABORATES WITH GILDA’S CLUB SOUTH FLORIDA

TO HELP KIDS TOUCHED BY CANCER IN RECOGNITION OF

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

WHO: Wuf Shanti and Gilda’s Club South Florida

WHAT: The 2 organizations join forces in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Gilda’s Club South Florida is hosting Super Saturday for families who are touched by cancer. Parents will have the opportunity to connect with others who are also touched by cancer while Wuf Shanti will teach the kids yoga and lead them in meditation.

WHERE: Gilda’s Club South Florida 119 Rose Drive, Fort Lauderdale

WHEN: Saturday, September 17, 2016 10:00 AM to 12:30 pm

WHY: Gilda’s Club has been offering yoga as a healthy lifestyles option in its programming for many years.  Members undergoing cancer treatment report that yoga helps with side effect management from chemotherapy as well as pain, stress, anxiety and general feelings of well-being.  Caregivers also report reductions in stress and anxiety as a result of yoga practice.   “We are very excited to have Wuf Shanti lead our first children’s yoga class at our Super Saturday event,” said Stacey Balkanski, Program Director at Gilda’s Club South Florida.  “The children present will be both children with a cancer diagnosis and children who have a family member with a diagnosis.   We expect that all young participants will benefit from Wuf Shanti’s yoga class by gaining additional coping skills,” she said.

This event is free and open to the public.   Please call Yvonne at 954-763-6776 to RSVP.

ABOUT WUF SHANTI

Wuf Shanti is an adorable dog yoga character who travels the world and shares with children through great music and fun stories about how to do yoga and live mindfully, think like a yogi, look on the bright side of life, be kind to others, and live in gratitude. The mascot (which is actually 12-year-old Adam in the Wuf Shanti costume) visits children’s hospitals, schools, yoga studios, and festivals. Adam is one of the youngest certified children yoga instructors that we know of, by Kidding Around Yoga, and has made children smile though his character because of his compassion and dedication.
