What we resist persists and will not disappear until we give it our attention and handle what we need to handle. Let’s face it, we all have things in our lives that we would much rather ignore and hope that they magically disappear, but unfortunately that is not the case! The pile of paperwork that you keep saying you will get to tomorrow becomes a box of papers that will take days to sort through! That first little twinge of a toothache may come and go but one day you know that you will be making a trip to the dentist! The troubling conversation that you had with a loved one that neither of you wants to talk about, will only turn into resentment from one or both parties at some point. There is an easier way my friends, I promise!
The aspects of life that challenge us are often like a little puppy. All the puppy wants to do is play with you. So he keeps bringing you his toy and nipping at your ankles, over and over again. You are busy in your life, ignoring the stack of bills, the puppy, and playing video games instead! Suddenly the house is very quiet and you know that the puppy is up to no good! Upon investigation you find your favorite pair of shoes and your smart phone has become a chew toy and will never be used again. What you resist persists! All you needed to do was take some time and play with the puppy. He is not going away, and in time he will settle comfortably in your lap and take a nap. Then you can call that friend and patch things up!
Doesn’t it feel so good to complete a task that you have been putting off for a long time? It is much like taking a long hike with a heavy backpack, and at the end of the day you take that pack off and you feel so light and unburdened! There is will always be projects and tasks that are not as fun as others, but find a way to make it a priority so that you can get through it and move on to the good stuff! And when if comes to facing challenging days at the DMV or the tax office, find ways to appreciate the positive things that will come, and take deep breaths!!!!
