Day 3 of the MKPS re-release with new content. Check out this interview with ABC News correspondent and 10% Happier founder, Dan Harris. This was pretty cool, and I think you’ll find it really interesting. We spoke what mindfulness and meditation are, and how they can help not only teens but everyone.
“For parents and teachers, if you’re interested in having Mindful kids, you have to model it. I do nothing that my parents told me to do, but I do everything that they modeled. I think the most powerful thing you can do for your kids on this front is to model mindfulness. Your kids will pick up on it and you’ll be happier.”
“For kids, staying engaged in a healthy way, given all the other responsibilities kids have…, staying engaged in a constructive way is the way to not feel like you got run over by a truck all the time because you’re doing something no matter how small.”
“Wise Selfishness -If you develop care for other people, you will be happier. If you want to have a better life, helping other people is the way to do it.”
“When you notice that you’re in a loop of negative thinking, on something, test score, fight with a friend, some new rule your parents introduced around the house that you don’t like, maybe ask yourself this question…is this useful…. It can help you draw the line between useless rumination and what I call constructive anguish. That’s a huge deal…There’s a way through developing self awareness and mindfulness to notice when you’ve worried yourself silly and it’s no longer useful and maybe it’s time to do something else.”
